DAY 4: Introduce more “play” into your work environment
Some of us are in the unfortunate position of doing work we don’t enjoy because we happen to be good at it. Even worse though, some of us are stuck with tasks that we don’t love doing, that also don’t serve our skill set.
Conscious leaders, however, find things that they love AND are good at because it will hardly feel like a job. Instead, you’ll feel more playful with your work. You’ll struggle less. You’ll be a happier, more productive person.
Unconscious leaders are often struggling with work because they don’t love what they are doing, they are bad at it, or (gasp) both. You may have worked for someone in the past who was in this position and it was probably a miserable experience for all parties involved.
An effective way to introduce play at work is to incorporate a regular improv comedy workshop into the routine. Once a month bring in an improv teacher to take the entire department through exercises that promote play. Not only will it inject the office with a sense of humor, it will stave off burnout.
Incorporating play at work may not sound like it will increase productivity, but that’s how an unconscious leader thinks. A conscious leader knows that when people love what they do, it won’t ever feel like a job. That’s a happy, productive, creative work environment.
