All of the Letters Between B and Y

On improv comedy and being productive

It’s easy to take a project and think about the beginning (A) and the end (Z).

The hard part is between the B and Y.

The A is exciting. It’s the idea itself. The end product, Z, is easy to obsess over.

But the real work is between the genesis and the finish.

Learning improv comedy has helped me celebrate the process in a deeper, more meaningful way.

In improv, if I’m obsessing over the end of a scene, it will take me out of the moment — not good!

If I’m taken out of the moment, then I’m no longer listening, and I’m no longer engaged in the process — very bad!

Then there’s less joy in the work, and the work is far less likely to be completed — the worst!

Improv classes can be a key tool for productivity. Yes, you’ll learn comedy techniques. Yes, you’ll learn how to be a more confident communicator and charismatic speaker.

But an underrated part of learning improv is you’ll learn how to be more productive.

P.S. I hope you have the MOST productive week you can have. If you want to tell me about what you’re working on, I’d love to hear it.

P.P.S. …and when you’re ready to explore joining my improv coaching program, I’d love to hear that too.
